Happy Werewolf Day!

Well at least according to comic book writer and internet Jesus [livejournal.com profile] warren_ellis Valentines day was about blood, werewolves, and sex before the Church got a hold of it. I kind of like that version better.

I presume he's alluding to Lupercalia, which, unless I'm mistaken, doesn't actually involve werewolves. I can't really see much point in celebrating Lupercalia today, whatever one may think of Valentine's Day. In the Church, today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, which takes precedence over the usual feast, that of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, the patron saints of Europe.
