The year: 1994. From out of space comes a runaway planet, hurtling between the Earth and the Moon, unleashing cosmic destruction! Man's civilization is cast in ruin!
Two thousand years later, Earth is reborn...
A strange new world rises from the old: a world of savagery, super science, and sorcery. But one man bursts his bonds to fight for justice! With his companions Ookla the Mok and Princess Ariel, he pits his strength, his courage, and his fabulous Sunsword against the forces of evil.
He is Thundarr, the Barbarian!

Actually Alex Toth did most of the early design and Kirby was brought in later when Toth couldnt continue by Steve Gerber.

Having seen Thundarr recently, I hate to admit it, but the title sequence is probably the best thing about it. The episodes themselves are pretty ... pedestrian (to be charitable), but the core concept is just brilliant and that opening is simply pregnant with possibilities. I can't help but think the world needs greater doses of post-apocalyptic fantasy that combines Burroughs, Howard, and all those wacky pop science end of the world scenarios from the 70s and 80s. It'd be a thing of beauty.
