As most of you know I adore the Australian Shepherd breed. Smart, agile, loyal, and love please their people. I was glad to an Aussie win at the Crufts Dog Show in Birmingham England this weekend.

Australian Shepherd wins Crufts

An Australian Shepherd dog has been named Best in Show at the 115th Crufts dog show, the event's top title.

The dog, named Caitland Isle Take a Chance, beat six other group winners at the show's final, held at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham.

More than 22,200 dogs from 32 countries took part in this year's Crufts, the world's largest dog show.

Other winners included a poodle, a Norwegian elkhound, a Pomeranian and a fox terrier.

The champion dog, known as Chance, is a five-year-old owned by Nancy Resetar of Royal Oaks, California, in the US.

She said: "It's the best moment in my life. I'm so proud of him."

'Awesome' dog

Winning handler Larry Fenner said: "I am overwhelmed. The greatest moment of my life was the birth of my daughter, this is second best. I did not expect it.

"The dog is awesome, the greatest I have ever shown in my life. I probably won't have another one like him."

Crufts was established in 1891 and now runs for four days every March.

The reserve Best in Show dog, in second place, was wire fox terrier El-Rays Snowtaire Iceni Payback.

The dog, known as Payback, is owned by Barbara Becker and Phil Davies, of Upper Killay, Swansea.

Best in Show judge Brenda Banbury said: "The thing that we all have to think about when we are judging dogs is that there are many aspects to look at.

"The first thing is how closely does the dog or bitch relate to the standard.

"We then look at how good is its overall conformation, its muscles, its coat and then the temperament of the dog. And then there is this star quality."

I like Australian Sheperds. I think that is one of the dogs in Annie's makeup. She's too small to have German Shepard in her and I think Aussie's are smaller.

If Annie is hyper and always wants a job she prob has Aussie or Border Collie in her.

Actually, she is hyper. And she's always trying to herd the kids in the neighborhood.

I think I really need to get her a pet. 8-)

Most dogs do better with a fellow dog around. Gives them someone to wrestle with. :-D

That would explain why she's always trying to wrestle me. Don't wory, she KNOWS she can't esatablish dominance over me.

I should get her a cat to chase.

Mine dont think they can be boss either, though I think they view me more as a that crazy hairless primate that controls the kibble; rather than a pack leader.

I established dominance right away. Got a dog that obeys when I need her to. I continually get compliments on how well trained she is.
