Angel Star Andy Hallett Dies of Heart Failure

From E Online

Andy Hallett, who starred as Lorne ("the Host") on the TV series Angel, died of heart failure last night at age 33, according to his longtime agent and friend Pat Brady. The actor passed away at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles after a five-year battle with heart disease, with his father Dave Hallett by his side.

Hallett, from the Cape Cod village of Osterville, Mass., appeared on more than 70 episodes of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff, Angel, between 2000 and 2004. The accomplished actor was also a musician and sang two songs ("Lady Marmalade" and "It's Not Easy Being Green") on the Angel: Live Fast, Die Never soundtrack, released in 2005.

The actor's character on Angel was Krevlornswath of the Deathwok Clan, or Lorne for short. Hallett's Lorne was a friendly demon, who, when not assisting Angel and his team in the investigation of various and sundry underworld mysteries, served as the host and headliner at a demon bar.

Back in 2001, Hallett told our own Jen Godwin that despite constant flirtation with David Boreanaz' character Angel, and the occasional sly Elton John reference, "We don't really know if he's gay. I don't really know. It's funny, because sometimes he's right in Angel's face, and that's when I feel it the most. And viewers would probably think, hmm, what's going on here? This guy's pretty curvy."

Hallett has spent his post-Angel years working on his music career, playing shows around the country. He had been admitted to the hospital three or four times in the past few years for his heart condition, according to Pat.

Another Angel castmember, Glenn Quinn, who played Doyle in season one, passed away in 2002.

A private funeral service will be held for family and close friends in Cape Cod, most likely over this weekend.

Above and beyond I am sad that he passed his presence on Angel was always appreciated by me. Seeing that he too had heart failure makes me greateful that I have good luck with mine the last ten years. May you find something to sing about in whatever exists beyond.

And I want to renew my vows in Vegas...

I keep joking with Ann I want to renew our vows in Las Vegas with a midget Elvis officiating, but this would be better.

'Star Trek' couple beaming after winning wedding prize

It might even make Captain Kirk a little jealous.

Justin Gruba and Alissa Mellis of Troy captured 35.48% of the 1,181 votes cast in the Detroit Science Center’s “Star Trek: The Exhibition” Ultimate Wedding Package Contest to win a June wedding on the exhibit's recreated bridge of the USS Enterprise and a reception for 200 at the museum. They will also nab a Star Trek honeymoon suite at the MGM Grand Detroit.

Online voting ended today for nine couples, including Gruba and Mellis, who got engaged in the exhibit on Valentine’s Day.

“Marriage is a journey and an adventure,” the couple wrote on their application for the contest. “Like the voyage of Star Trek, we will go boldly go into an unknown future together.

"We are sure to face many challenges, especially in these difficult times but we will have courage! It would be a great honor to begin our journey through life on the bridge, a place that represents courage, hope and always a better tomorrow."

Comics 8/9/06

Escapists #2 (Of 6)
Ok thats twice the shop missed this on my pull and sold out....grrrrr.

Scarlet Traces The Great Game #2 (Of 4)
The plot thickens and off to see the war on Mars. Anyone that liked League of Extraordinary Gentleman should like this.

52 Week #14
I just wish the stories werent so fragmented in this book. Rather see the whole thing concentrate on one storyline for a few issues then move on.

JSA Classified #15
The art in this is very clunky. And didnt the Gamblers daughter already enslave parts of the JSA and had them battle? And do a lot of writers use Wildcat as a focal point to JSA stories? Or is it just me?

Secret Six #3 (Of 6)
Like this book a lot. It is one of the few things that came out from Infinite Crisis that I do like.

Moon Knight #4
I liked Taskmasters costume in the mini a couple years back. Kind of disappointed that they put him back in his original one. Looking forward to the Moon Knight vs Taskmaster fight next issue.

Mouse Guard #4 (Of 6)
Man I love this book. Very curious how he is going to wrap this all up.

Sorry this was late again, but I was at the mom-in-laws this past weekend.

Amazing Spider-girl

Marvel does something I like for a frigging change, something that isnt a civil war, or a house of crap, or letting Bendis do what ever the hell he wants. They relaunch a good solid book. And this time it gets some promotion. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact the Spider-girl digests sell so well?

Last Week's Comics

Sorry this is so late again thought I had posted already.

52 #9
First appearance of the new Batwoman. The art in this issue looks rushed and amateurish.

Fables Vol 7 Arabian Nights (and Days)
It was fun to see what Willingham did with Middle Eastern Fables. Frau Totenkinder is becoming my favorite character in this book.

Secret Six #2 (of 6)
Damn this book is fun. But then I have liked just about anything with Deadshot in it since John Ostrander used him in the Suicide Squad. And have you heard the rumors that the Suicide Squad may be getting the Showcase reprints treatment? Woo! HOO!

Beyond #1 (of 6)
Mainly got this because I like Wayne Mc Duffie's writing. Odd mixture of characters. See if the second issue does more to hook me. I really didnt like the original Secret Wars.

Last Planet Standing #5 (of 5)
Defalco wrote himself out of a corner though the final fate of Galactus felt kind of wonky to me.

Moon Knight #3
Missed this when it came out. Is it me or is David Finch channeling Bill Sienkiewicz? Sure looks like in some of the little touches he has been adding.

Uncanny X-men #475
Bought this to see if Brubaker could hook me on a mainstream X-book. So far... the magic eightball says "Try again later". I think part of it that Billy Tan's art reminds me of Micheal Turner's too much.

New Comics 6/21/06

52 Week #7
So is Montoya going to be the new Batwoman?

All Star Superman #4
Grant Morrison made Jimmy Olsen cool.

Birds Of Prey #95
Ok good the Shiva subplot is over. Can we say Thank you?

Flash The Fastest Man Alive #1
A very muddled mess especially if you havent read DC comics for years.

JSA Classified #13
Nice conclusion to the story arc. I thought that Alan Scott was sporting an eyepatch these days....

Dork Tower #34
Great stuff as usual from John Kovalic. A nice everyman's history of gaming.

Knights Of The Dinner Table #115
Here Ann this I only get for you anymore.

Eternals #1 (Of 6)
Storyline paced for publication in TPB, but annoyingly so. I like Gaiman's reinterpretation of the classic characters.

Last Planet Standing #4 (Of 5)
OK this book is going way over the top but its fun too watch.

DC Previews in September

ALL STAR SUPERMAN #6 )
I just love what Grant Morrison is doing with this book. I havent enjoyed Superman this much since Elliot S! Maggin wrote Last Son of Krypton and Miracle Monday novels when the first two Superman movies came out.
CHECKMATE #6 )
All you have to do is say Suicide Squad and I will check a book out. And with Greg Rucka writing it there may be hope that he could as well with it as John Ostrander did.
MYSTERY IN SPACE #1 (of 6) )
I am giving this a shot in hope that Starlin can channel of his 70's Captain Marvel and Warlock madness again.
WILDCATS: WORLDSTORM #1 )
Grant Morrison doing WILDCats. Here is hoping that he can make it as much fun as Alan Moore or James Robinson did.
SNAKES ON A PLANE #1 & 2 )
Snakes on a fricking plane! 'Nuff said!
THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN: THE BLACK DOSSIER HC )
OK this and Fables hardcover are being advanced solicited so they really arent October books, but more LoEG is always a good thing and this time we will get the whole story in one shot no worries about how long each issue will come out. YAY!
FABLES: 1001 NIGHTS OF SNOWFALL HARDCOVER )
I love Fables. And its a hardcover for only $19.99 Who can resist?
AMERICAN SPLENDOR #1 (of 4) )

I have enjoyed Harvey Pekar for a long while now. Its too bad that Dark Horse has lost him, but who can blame him for jumping ship. I am betting he is making a heck of a lot more money under DC's wings than Dark Horses.

Another Great Passes Away....

From Comic Book Resources....

LEGENDARY ARTIST TIM HILDEBRANDT HAS PASSED AWAY )

The copy of the Star Wars poster he and Greg did adorned my bedroom walls many years after it should have been retired. Between that and the LotR rings stuff they did shaped what I thought what fantasy should look like for many years. And for those of you young enough this is the poster I refer to; Star Wars

Lon's Comic Pile

Short stack this week.....

Last Planet Standing 3 (of 5) I think Tom Defalco is going a bit over the top with this one, but we will see how it concludes. Was disappointed that there is no Silver Surfer as yet.

52 #5 Ok so we have attack of the 25 foot Hawkwoman. One character with one eye. Another completely blinded. Two character fused together. And Koriand ’ r skinnydipping. Is that is that why they are blind? Inquiring minds wanna know.

Detective #820 James Robinson's next to last issue. I am am enjoying this, but like many comics these days written to be read in one sitting not as single issues.

JSA #86 Next to last issue. This re-booting of numbering is getting a bit insane. I know that JLA is going to be called Justice League of America and they probably want to re-brand JSA as Justice Society of America, but sigh.

The Return of John Carter

I am a huge fan of John Carter of Mars. Never been big and the rest of ERB's work, but John Carter rocks.  I have all of the Marvel Comics series and a goodly portion of what was done with the character at DC. I need to replace the books at some point soon. I really looking forward to what Ted McKeeker does with the character.

I have also really wanted to run a Barsoom game. Always too many game ideas and not enough time.

Another short stack...

Didnt get around to this until this morning. Real world nonsense going on. Nothing horrible just annoying.

CRISIS ON MULTIPLE EARTHS VOL. 4 I didnt actually pick this up this week, but it is a another TPB of all the old JLS/JSA annual crossovers. Kind of dated sometimes, but still full of Silver Age goodness.

DETECTIVE COMICS #819 The story is slowly building. Interesting back-with Jason Bard. Showing the home life of a super-villian.

INFINITE CRISIS #7 (OF 7) Overall rushed, but for me the whole issue was worth the sequence with Luthor, Luthor, and the Joker. And if Superboy-Prime shows up again anytime soon.... hopefully it wont be in a book I read.

JSA #85 More Paul Levitz. More Gentleman Ghost. More I am not sure WTF is going on.

Mouse Guard #2 Ok go figure. I dont like Redwall, but I like this, Nice pin-up in the back by Guy Davis.

And dont forget today is Free Comic Book Day. Go to your Favorite Local Comic Shop and check it out.

the Rocketeer

The Rocketeer was one of those cool characters that the creator deserted for one reason or another. Dave Stevens' art was amazing and his depiction of Betty Page was va-VOOM! But today on the Drawing Board.org they did a Rocketeer sketch jam check it out here Rocketeer Sketch Jam

Looks like a short stack this week

100 Bullets Vol 9 Strychnine Lives TPB I have only been reading 100 Bullets in TPB for a long while now. Been waiting a while for this. I wonder when they will run out of clever titles for the trades?
Batman #652 Part four of James Robinson's run. Is Harvey guilty or not? I am surprised at the villian they killed off in this issue.
Checkmate #1
Its Greg Rucka and it has Amanda Waller in it, but it didnt wow me at all. This one has two more issues to hook me.
Seven Soldiers Frankenstein #4 (Of 4)
Last issue finally arrived and now we have to wait till May for the Seven Soldiers coda issue? Grrrr Arghh!
Villains United Infinite Crisis Special    This read like Infinite Crisis issue 6.5 and was written a bit confusing. Though it was still interesting.
All New Off Handbook Marvel Universe A To Z #4    I have just one question... who the heck is "Fight Man"?
