From the BBC

ITunes behind the cut )

I just wonder if the VW thing is just that their cars came with iPod hook-ups in them early on?

Also I have been watching the third season of Le Femme Nikita on DVD of late. I must not have seen these episodes when the originally aired. I dont remember things like Margot Kidder playing Nikita's mom. I miss this show, it being a user's manual for life in the Technocracy and all. Makes me want to run my own version of Eric's Nikita game (which we used Feng Shui for) perhaps using PDQ this time.

Oh well off to make the world safe for cable TV.

Snake 'befriends' snack hamster

A rodent-eating snake and a hamster have developed an unusual bond at a zoo in the Japanese capital, Tokyo.

Their relationship began in October last year, when zookeepers presented the hamster to the snake as a meal.

The rat snake, however, refused to eat the rodent. The two now share a cage, and the hamster sometimes falls asleep sitting on top of his natural foe.

"I have never seen anything like it," a zookeeper at the Mutsugoro Okoku zoo told the Associated Press News agency.

The hamster was initially offered to Aochan, the two-year-old rat snake, because it was refusing to eat frozen mice,.

As a joke, the zookeeper said they named the hamster Gohan - the Japanese word for meal.

"I don't think there's any danger. Aochan seems to enjoy Gohan's company very much," said zookeeper Kazuya Yamamoto.

The apparent friendship between the snake and hamster is one of many reported bonds spanning the divide between predator and prey.

You scored as Deep Space Nine (Star Trek). You have entered the dark side of the Star Trek universe. The paradise of Earth is far from you and you must survive despite having enemies on all fronts. But you wouldnt have it any other way because you thrive in conflict and will know what needs to be done to take care of those around you. Now if only the Founders would quit trying to take over the galaxy.

Being one of types of people mentioned at the end of the article I hope this really works. I tend to have IVs fail a lot when in the hospital and sometime get stuck 5-6 times to get an IV started sometimes.

Back from the place of unreality called Las Vegas. As usual we stayed at the Orelans. Had a great time player slots, video poker, and some freeze-out tournaments at the Luxor.

What we did.... )

Police: Pups get sitter, kids left alone
10-year-old of parents: 'I thought they loved them more than us'

Thursday, January 5, 2006 Posted: 0301 GMT (1101 HKT)

MANTECA, California (AP) -- A husband and wife -- who found a dog sitter for their new puppies but left their 9-year-old son home to care for his younger autistic brother while they celebrated the new year in Las Vegas -- were arrested Wednesday, police said.

Jacob Calero and his wife, Michelle De la Vega, left Calero's sons -- Joshua, 9, and Jason, 5 -- at their San Ramon home early Friday while the newlyweds headed out of town for a five-day trip, police said.

The children's mother, Cristina Calero, died of breast cancer in 2003 and Calero married De la Vega last year.

The maternal grandmother, Libbey Holden, said she called police after she suspected the couple had left the children behind.

"I had big concerns," Holden said Wednesday, sitting in her Manteca apartment filled with family pictures, including smiling portraits of her late daughter. "These kids are helpless."

Police said they found the children asleep in their beds Saturday night, a day after being left alone. A gas fireplace was turned on, but they found nothing out of the ordinary.

"It appears that the food and the environment were set up for them to be alone," San Ramon Police Sgt. Brian Kalinowski said.

The older boy said he was instructed to not answer the front door, so officers had to use a ladder to enter the home through an unlocked sliding glass door on a second-floor balcony.

Joshua said he and his brother ate cereal for breakfast and cooked frozen dinners in the microwave for lunch and dinner. He said his dad and stepmother left Friday morning while they were asleep. They had asked him to watch his younger brother, but didn't tell him where they were staying, he said.

"They shouldn't leave us alone," Joshua said, sitting in the living room of his grandmother's apartment. "I didn't know who I could call in an emergency. Even if I called my father, he's far away so there wouldn't be much he could do."

Joshua said the couple got each other puppies for Christmas and went so far as to bring the pug and the poodle-Maltese mix to De la Vega's mother before leaving town.

"I thought they loved them more than us," the boy said.

Holden said she tried calling Calero, but couldn't reach him. Worried, she consulted friends and finally decided to call authorities.

Officers began calling Calero's cell phone Saturday, but he didn't call back until Tuesday.

They flew from Las Vegas early Wednesday and were arrested at Oakland International Airport and jailed in Contra Costa County.

The exact charges were not immediately clear. Authorities scheduled a late afternoon news conference.

Joshua said it wasn't the first time he and his brother were left home alone. Last fall, his dad and stepmother kept him out of school for a week so he could baby-sit his brother while they went away, he said.

Calero and De la Vega are both cosmetic dentists in Santa Clara.

I wanted to rant about this myself but she does a much better job than could. Ann & I have grown tired of many of her co-workers thinking were are some sort of freaks. All because we dont have kids. Not everyone feels they need to have children to fulfill their lives!

In other non-ranty news in under 72 hours we will be in Las Vegas. YAY! Yes I am counting down. Really looking forward to some time off.

Telemarketer call helps save elderly man

December 28, 2005, 11:43 PM EST

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) _ A random call from a telemarketer helped save a frozen 85-year-old man who had fallen near his home in rural Illinois last week.

Crystal Rozell, an employee with Consumer Direct Marketing in Saratoga Springs, called a number on Dec. 22 when the man who answered said he was hurt and asked for help.

The man, who lives in Ridott, Ill., had fallen near his home the previous night and spent the entire night outside, said Stevenson County Sheriff David Snyders, who was in charge of the case in Illinois.

The man managed to crawl back into the house in the morning, but his phone could not make outgoing calls, Snyders said.

Rozell's call was the first he received that day.

The telemarketer contacted the police and the man was taken to a local hospital.

Police had no information about the man's condition, but said he wanted to thank Rozell.

Christopher Silipigno, vice president of Consumer Direct Marketing, said the company makes thousands of telemarketing calls to all parts of the country every day.

"Crystal usually speaks to 700 to 1,000 people every day," he said. "But she had the compassion to listen, and that is really something."
