Last night, Ann, Lisa, Steph, and I went to see the Police and Elvis Costello. We had all seen the Police earlier in the year, but the girls are huge Police fans and I really wanted to see Elvis Costello so again we went.

It was an outdoor venue this time at the DTE Energy Music Theatre (always be Pine Knob in my heart) beautiful weather and we were in the back row of the Pavilion we are too old for sitting on the lawn especially with Ann still recovering from knee surgery.

Elvis sang most of his classics and a couple newer things. What really got the crowd fired up was when Sting came out and sang and sang Alison with Elvis. I am just disappointed that he didnt sing Veronica by far my favorite song of his.

The rest of the crowd filled up when the Police came on stage opening with Message in a Bottle again. Nice performances by all. I especially watching Stewart Copeland preform.

After the show I picked up an Elvis Costello concert tee and the Rhythmatist CD by Stewart Copeland for Ann.

From the joy of Warren Ellis comes Four-Color Love Story a love song done from the point of view of a comic character. I especially liked this part of the lyrics.
"Gwen Stacy isn't dead, she's only sleeping/And Elektra isn't evil or insane/Those bastards at the Pentagon/Can't really kill Sue Dibny/No more than they could kill off Lois Lane"

The Metasciences MY Space, where you can get most of the album. And you can get the song all by itself here (for 7 days}.

I was recently given Stairways to Heaven which contains (Yup! you guessed it) 22 versions of Stairway to Heaven. Of which my favorite is the one by Neil Pepper. Though the "Rock Lobster" and "Lucy in the Sky" versions have their charms but that one is the best.

Me love covers!

After enjoying watching the first season of dueSouth I tracked down the two CDs that were were produced with music from it.

On the first disc they have a nice mix of of things scored for the show and songs from the likes of Sara McLachlan, The Guess Who and Klaatu with a few artists I have never heard of before. Out of the scored music Dief's in Love is my favorite although it it nice to hear the full version of the dueSouth theme.

The second disc is made up of music from the third season. The song I like the best is a very cool version of Take Me Out to the Ballpark by Trevor Hurst.

Both discs each have a song by Paul Gross (who plays Benton Fraser) who has a nice voice but unless you like country/folk sounding music you wouldnt like probably.

By the way Diefenbaker was played a dog named Lincoln in the first two seasons and by a pup named Draco in the final two seasons.

Even though I will probably get thwapped for spending money on iTunes. But when I stumbled across this today I failed my save vs iTunes. I mean its 32 covers for 9.99 and I like ELO as well. Its a guilty pleasure but I do love it just the same. Ever since someone in chatspace told me about the album I have been jonesing for it but didnt want to $30 for it. Thats it I will tell Ann I saved $20! It works on TV!

The Rockaria! cover by Pat Buchanan (no not the perennial right-wing presidential candidate) and what Tony Visonti really stand out so far to me.

As [livejournal.com profile] bruceb will attest I love covers of songs. Things like When Pigs Fly: Songs You Never Thought You'd Hear with Ani Difranco & Jackie Chan covering Unforgettable are some of my favorite things to listen to.

Some of my other faves are Thee Headcoates cover of Teenage Kicks, or the Chubbies doing Good Girls Don't. What a Wonderful World by Joey Ramone is good as well. Top of the World as done by Shonen Knife, 99 Red Balloons by Goldfinger, or Marilyn Manson's version of The KKK Took My Baby Away (the We're a Happy Family: A Tribute to the Ramones is a good listen as well)

Then there are things like the instrumental version of Blitzkrieg Bop by Yo La Tengo and Charlie Brown (Schroeder Version) by JFA that I get a kick out of too.

I am always looking for more covers.... now where did I put the William Shanter LP?
