Being up late at night I see the stars and the moon a lot. Sometimes I just sit outside and stare up at them. Sometimes I share the view with a couple rabbits that come to feed on the green apples that have fallen to the ground. The airport nearby shuts down after 11 PM so it gets fairly quiet for being in the city limits.

You may call me a fool, but I have a hard time believing that no-one had a hand in their peace and beauty. This prayer flows through my head a lot when I am out there.

Prayer of Saint Francis )

It help focus my mind and center my spirit, which in turn keeps me going with a smile on my face. Sometimes I wonder if I should have been a monk, but then I enjoy too many pleasures of the flesh.

Now I wander off to bed with Ann and the pups. My blessings be upon you.

The brain tends to wander working third shift....

Why does the bag of microwave popcorn have to be placed "this side down".
Why does cold water taste more refreshing?
Why do commercials on late night TV become more and more annoying as the hours grow later?
Why do birds appear.... oops never mind.
Why does Sonic advertise in Michigan, there arent any of their restaurants here that I know of?
Does anyone actually read this?

Now off to work. Must make the world safe for cable!

Been a while since I posted anything. If anyone wonders I have been working a lot of overtime. I have been working my regular 36 hours in Howell plus two or three extra shifts at the Comcast account as well. The money will be nice but the house looks likes the dogs have been in charge of the housework. :)

The good news is though starting tomorrow I will be working the Comcast account full-time! Monday through Friday 9pm to 6am. YAY! Guess I really impressed the client there. This means a nice raise and no weekends! We havent signed a long term contract there yet, but things look good. I guess my philosophy of asking myself WWJD (What would Jigglypuff do?) has paid off. :)

In other madness I had a dream the other night that we bought a house and were doings some remodeling on it. We were having a second bath put in and for some reason Ann wanted to install for lighting the type of lights you use to grow plants indoors with. I said "Hell No!" and so then Ann and her two best friends were mad at me because without those types of lights, they couldnt write poetry in in the bathroom. No I didnt eat anything odd before bed that morning.

Yesterday I went to pick up a refill and while waiting I heard one of the people at the front counter asking first someone named Costello and then Abott. I wondered aloud if Laurel & Hardy were next and a couple of Senior Citizens there laughed. Glad my humor is appreciated somewhere. The dogs never laugh at any of my jokes unless they involve bones or chasing squirrels.

Lastly we are playing Serenity tonight. I am planning to play the card playing gunslinger with the mysterious past. Gordy is running this game should be fun, have a couple of new players coming I will let you know how it goes.

To infinity and beyond! God that was stupid, I need more sleep.... but I must make the house safe before the dust bunnies go feral!

A hodgepodge of things today. As many of you know I have been pulling extra shifts at Comcast Cable in Flint. They have had some incidents with intruders in employee parking lot so the got security in there. Been a nice gig extra $4 an hour plus an extra hour paid for driving there. And in between I get to watch cable in the employee break room.

So this afternoon about 2pm I got a phone call from my supervisor at the account I normally work telling me that Dave (our boss) wanted me back at Comcast tonight & tomorrow instead of in Howell. I fell sorry for my Howell supervisor because if he cant get anyone to come in he will be stuck for 24 hours there. I think I was called back to Comcast because the two ladies that work there overnight feel the most comfortable with me there. This bodes well because its looking more and more like a permanent gig there. This gives me a leg up on being the full-time guy there. This would be Monday through Friday 9pm to 6am. And probably no major holidays.

Also watching Lost (at work heh) last night I was surprised that was some manner of plot advancement and less flashbackey nonsense. And also some info on the who and what the shelter is there for. Though I think Jack is right. Locke just seems crazier by the episode.

On the comic front it has been interesting to watch Hibbs vs Marvel and it is looking that the end is in sight. This is a good article on the whole thing.

Lastly I want to wish [livejournal.com profile] bruceb a very happy birthday! Stop by and wish him a happy 20th Anniversary of his 20th Birthday!

Ahhh for the good old days of settling things with your sword arm.....

Two suburban Detroit cousins charged under 1846 dueling law

September 28, 2005, 12:15 AM

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) -- Five years into the 21st century, an 1846 anti-dueling law is being used to prosecute two cousins accused of getting in a knife fight outside their suburban Detroit home.

"Any person who shall engage in a duel with any deadly weapon, although no homicide ensue, or who shall challenge another to fight such as duel ... shall be guilty of a felony," says the law, with a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

"The 1800s are alive and well in Mount Clemens," joked Dean Alan, who heads the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office warrants division. It issued warrants Tuesday.

Police say the cousins, ages 19 and 31, disagreed Monday over a $30 dollar debt.

The older man brandished a knife and challenged the younger man to fight outside their Mount Clemens home, and the younger man accepted, said Sheriff Mark Hackel.

"He could've done any number of things," Hackel told The Macomb Daily. "He could've called police, he could've fled the area. But he took on the challenge and became part of the problem."

The younger man received a non-life-threatening stab wound in the stomach and was recovering at Mount Clemens General Hospital, Hackel said.

The uninjured cousin fled and was being sought. He is on parole for a drug offense, the sheriff said.

A lawyer specializing in criminal defense said he has never represented anyone charged with dueling but said lawyers for both men could use the same strategy -- claiming self-defense.

"If it's a mutual fight, it's kind of hard to say it's one guy's fault," said Steven Rabaut. "And just because you're the injured party, that doesn't mean you were the good guy."
