Nicolas Cage's Super Baby
By Gina Serpe Mon Oct 3, 9:37 PM ET

Nicolas Cage's latest role: proud papa.

The Oscar-winning actor and his wife, Alice Kim Cage, welcomed son Kal-el Coppola Cage into the world Monday morning, Cage's publicist, Annett Wolf, confirmed.

"They are healthy and happy and it's quite lovely," Wolf said in a statement.

Cage's new superboy was born in New York City. None of his vital statistics were released...or word on any potential superpowers: The tyke's unusual moniker, Kal-el, is also the birth name of Superman.

(Sidenote: Cage was briefly slated to play Clark Kent in a Tim Burton remake before the project was scrapped to make way for a younger incarnation.)

It's the first child for Kim, 21, and the second for Cage, who has a 14-year-old son from a previous relationship with actor Kristina Fulton.

Cage, 41, and Kim first met in February 2004, when the Moonstruck star visited a sushi restaurant where his then-wife was a waitress. The duo tied the knot in a private ceremony in June of the same year, just two months after Cage finalized his divorce from Lisa Marie Presley.

Prior to his vow-swapping with Elvis' offspring, the erstwhile Family Man was famously--and tumultuously--married to recent Emmy winner Patricia Arquette.

The duo's relationship had more than its share of ups and downs, even by Hollywood standards, with the movie star couple managing to marry, divorce, reconcile and divorce again between 1995-2001.

In addition to manning diaper duty for the next few months, Cage has an ambitious slate ahead of him.

The Lord of War star has no fewer than seven films in the works, including a follow-up to last year's action blockbuster National Treasure and an untitled September 11 project with director Oliver Stone.

Cage next hits the big screen in the dramedy The Weather Man, opposite
Michael Caine and Hope Davis, out Oct. 28.

Saw Serenity with Ann, Steph, and Gordy. A good movie. It had its problems, but I enjoyed it. River came off as too Buffy-lke for me, and some of what happened to the characters I didnt like. Especially when Simon Tam turned out too be an Alliance Spy! Kidding.

I am just hoping that it does enough box office to justify more movies. I would actually prefer a HBO mini-series, though I know that would never happen.

Serenity 4/5 for Firefly fans. 3.5/5 for the mundanes.

When you see this on your flist, quote Firefly..

Inara: So. Would you like to lecture me the wickedness of my ways?
Book: I brought you some supper, but if you'd prefer a lecture, I've a few very catchy ones prepped. Sin and hellfire... one has lepers.
Inara: I think I'll pass. I thank you for this.

Book: Give me that. River, you don't...fix the Bible.
River: It's broken. Doesn't make sense.
Book: It's not about making sense. It's about believing in something and letting that belief be real enough to change your life. It's about faith. You don't fix faith, River. It fixes you. You hang on to those, now.

You scored as Shepherd Derrial Book. The Preacher. Out here, folks need a minister, if only to remind them that God hasn't forgotten them. It isn't about making them worship, it is teaching them to do right by themselves and other people. Why is that so hard for some to understand?

[livejournal.com profile] demiurgent turned me onto this program the other day. Its called Comic Life. With it you can take digital photos and turn them into comic looking template complete with word balloons and sound effect text.

Makes me mull over doing the mini-comic about all my heart problems the last few years again.

The Sun Card
You are the Sun card. The light of the Sun reveals
all. The Sun is joyful and bright, without fear
or reservation. The childish nature of the Sun
allows you to play and feel free. Exploration
can truly take place in the light of day when
nothing is hidden. The Sun's rays fill you with
energy so that you may live life to its
fullest, milking pleasure out of each day. Such
joy and energy can bring wealth and physical
pleasure. To shine in the light of day is to
have confidence, to soak up its rays is to feel

For the last several years I havent had a commute of any sort. Drive time from house to work was about ten minutes. Now driving back and forth is about 35 - 40 minutes. I know it isnt much compared to a lot of folk, but it takes time.

To quote Dennis Miller when he was still funny. I dont want to go on a rant here, but in the years I havent had a commute there seems a trend has developed. People either pass barely faster than the car you are passing or hang in the left lane LONG after you are done passing. Please get the hell out of the way for the people that might driving faster than you are. And also talk on your damn cell phone when you get home or off the road. I really dont want to be side swiped by someone talking about the latest episode of Survivor, the Apprentice, or American Idol. You want reality TV watch the fucking news. Also when changing lanes there is this newfangled device all cars come equipped with now. Its a called the TURN SIGNAL! Use it! Oh by the way dont watch TV or DVDs while driving, when driving that is where your attention needs to be. Not on the porn you hide from your wife.

Yes I had one of THOSE mornings driving back home from work this morning.

Though I wish to end on a funny note (with apologies to my Republican friends. Yes I do know and speak with Republicans.) From Bill Maher's New Rules "New rule: Don’t try to talk to me about Desperate Housewives. If I had the slightest interest in other people’s sex lives, I’d be a Republican."

Night all I will be here all week!

Ann & I went out to get a bite to eat at Applebee's tonight. I think it is the forst time we have eaten out in over a month. I had the Sizzling Chicken Skillet from the Weight Watchers menu and Ann had her usual.... fajitas. I am not sure why she even looks at the menu when we go there. :-)

But in the way home we stopped at The Place of DVD Evil, known to the rest of the world as Best Buy. We were poking around the new releases and she said "Go ahead I know you want to." She was gesturing at the general release version of Battlestar Galactica. Not being a fool I grabbed it and sprinted for the checkout counter before she could think better of it. I think I trampled a senior citizen on my way there.

Then when we got into the car again she just looked at me with those beautiful brown eyes and said "I love you. You geeky man." Now usually that is a prelude to needing me to do some laundry or some other household task (just kidding sweetheart), but this time she told me how much she adored me and was glad that we got married.

Now I just want to say I love you too, Ann. I couldnt be any luckier than to have you with me and I hope we are as happy for the rest of ours lives as we we are right now.

Now onto the DVDs...

The BSG DVDs come in a slip case and the individual DVDs are in thin cases (like the Firefly DVD set), which I like a lot. All the episodes and the mini-series have commentary except: Water, Litmus, Six Degrees of Separation, and Flesh & Bone, Which means I have many hours of watching and re-watching to do. YAY! It also looks like the discs have a play all option for the episodes which is another big plus for me.

I just wonder why every cover for BSG things has Six looking like she is about to shoot eyebeams out of her eyes. She is by far the least interesting part of the series for me. Oh well I am off to my geekfest!!

EDIT: BTW anyone that is interested I have a copy of the BSG miniseries on DVD that is looking for a good home now. For sale or trade!
